When I went to Madrid, my love for churros grew exponentially especially because I was able to order fresh churros with hot chocolate at 4 am. In Toronto, there is no such thing. My favourite locations to get churros are Pancho’s Bakery and El Habanero & Churrobar. Unfortunately, they all close too early for my liking; the latest is 11pm. However, I found out that there are three creative ways that you can enjoy churros late at night.
El Catrin - 18 Tank House Lane
This restaurant is situated in the Distillery District and is well known for its Mexican food and sophisticated environment. El Catrin is for those of you that are willing to dress up and leave their homes. The earliest that this restaurant closes is at 11pm on Wednesday and the latest is 1am on Friday; I consider this to be a late night churro place. It might be out of the way for some but if you know someone else who is equally craving that late night dessert, I would suggest to Uber there. Their churros are served with Cajeta, a Mexican Caramel sauce; Chocolate and Strawberry sauce. This option is perfect for late night hang out or a date.
Playa Cabana Hacienda - 14 Dupont Street
Playa Cabana Hacienda is a Latin American restaurant located at Dupont and Avenue Road. It’s one of my favourite restaurants for two reason; their Latin music playlist and their tacos. If you're anything like me and you like staying in on a Friday day night, you’ll be happy to know that you can order churros until 2 am from Playa Cabana Hacienda through the Foodora app. There is a delivery cost of 5 dollars but it’s worth it, since you get fresh churros with marshmallows and caramel delivered to your door. However, if you’re in the mood to socialize, I’d suggest to reserve a spot on their website, as it tends to get busy at this tiny location.
Walmart - Any Location
As I mentioned, I’m obsessed with churros and sometimes I want more than I can handle, especially during a late Saturday night craving. So one way to satisfy your late night craving is to stack up on a churro mix kit. For about $3.49 you can buy Tres Estrellas Delicious Churros Flour Mix. It’s super quick and easy to make. I suggest buying three packs, no, I mean, four. And don't forget to buy San Ignacio Dulce de Leche spread as a side too. This option is my favourite as you can eat as much as you want.
